Collingwood and Region's
Emergency, Urgent Care and After-Hours Walk in Clinic
BayVETS Urgent Care Collingwood was founded by a group of local veterinarians with a shared goal: to provide timely, efficient, and compassionate medical care for pets when your family veterinarian is closed. As long-time members of the Collingwood veterinary community, we understand the need for a local, trusted option for urgent cases, one that doesn’t come with extensive travel, long delays. We also warmly welcome visitors to our region - whether you're here for a weekend or an extended stay, we're here to help.
Our clinic runs on a team-based approach, combining the skills of our experienced veterinarians with a highly trained team of registered veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants.
We assess all patients who walk through our door. We are equipped to perform diagnostics, hospitalize and perform select surgeries. If your pet needs more advanced, critical, or specialized care we will ensure your pet is assessed, stabilized and made comfortable, and we’ll coordinate a seamless referral to the most appropriate facility. This helps avoid confusion, wasted time, and unnecessary expenses — making sure your pet gets the right care, in the right place, without delay.
At BayVETS Urgent Care, our goal is simple: to treat urgent cases swiftly and skillfully, and to support pet owners with clear communication, honest guidance, and outstanding care every step of the way.
For an optimal experience, we encourage calling ahead but walk-ins are welcome. We are located in downtown Collingwood across from Loblaws (operating out of Collingwood Veterinary Services after hours)

Helpful Videos
Veterinary ultrasound is a valuable, non-invasive diagnostic tool that helps veterinarians quickly assess many urgent and emergency conditions in dogs and cats, including internal illness, trauma, breathing difficulties, and foreign body ingestion.
Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions can ultrasound help diagnose in dogs and cats?
Ultrasound can help evaluate vomiting, abdominal pain, hit-by-car trauma, breathing difficulty, internal bleeding, fluid accumulation, bladder issues, foreign bodies, intestinal obstruction, and certain masses or internal abnormalities.
Is ultrasound safe for pets?
Yes. Ultrasound is a safe, painless, non-invasive diagnostic procedure that does not use radiation and is generally very well tolerated by dogs and cats.
Does my pet need sedation for an ultrasound?
Some pets tolerate ultrasound very well without sedation. However, many pets are more comfortable and relaxed with a small amount of light sedation, which can also improve image quality and allow for a more complete diagnostic assessment.
Can ultrasound detect foreign bodies or intestinal blockages?
In many cases, ultrasound can help identify foreign material within the stomach or intestinal tract and help determine whether endoscopy or surgery may be needed.
What is the difference between ultrasound and x-rays?
X-rays are excellent for evaluating bones, lungs, and overall abdominal structure, while ultrasound allows veterinarians to assess internal organs and soft tissues in real time. Ultrasound and x-rays are often used together in emergency and urgent care cases.
Can ultrasound be used to evaluate the heart?
Yes. Specialized cardiac ultrasound, known as an echocardiogram, can be used to assess heart structure and function. Focused cardiac ultrasound can also help veterinarians quickly differentiate cardiac versus respiratory causes of breathing difficulty in emergency patients.

At BayVETS Urgent Care Collingwood, upper GI endoscopy may be used in appropriate cases to retrieve foreign bodies from the stomach of dogs and cats without the need for invasive abdominal surgery.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is upper GI endoscopy in dogs and cats?
Upper GI endoscopy is a procedure that uses a specialized camera and retrieval instruments to examine the esophagus and stomach and, in some cases, remove swallowed foreign objects without traditional surgery.
What types of foreign bodies can sometimes be removed with endoscopy?
Depending on the size, shape, and location of the object, endoscopy may be used to remove socks, toys, fabric, bones, fish hooks, rawhide, and other swallowed foreign material from the stomach.
Does my pet need anesthesia for endoscopy?
Yes. Upper GI endoscopy is performed under general anesthesia to allow the procedure to be performed safely and comfortably.
How do veterinarians determine if my pet is a candidate for endoscopy?
Diagnostic imaging such as x-rays and ultrasound are often used to determine whether the foreign object is still within the stomach and whether endoscopic retrieval may be possible.
What are the benefits of endoscopy compared to surgery?
Because endoscopy is minimally invasive, many pets experience less discomfort, faster recovery times, and reduced healing periods compared to traditional abdominal surgery.
